The Beginnings

Flora came to New York City as a teen and went on to study Fashion Design at Parsons in NYC in the late '70s. However, she left Parsons when she went to Paris for summer vacation and started receiving freelance work offers from some of the hottest Ready-to-Wear houses. Her early works appeared in French ELLE and Dépêche Mode (the Parisian fashion review, not the group...) and eventually she became design assistant to the iconic Emmanuelle Khanh, in an atelier overlooking Les Halles in Paris.

The Next Two Decades

In the early 80's, Flora went to L.A. to visit her parents and took a job as Harriet Selwyn's assistant for Fragments. Shortly after, she returned to NYC and founded her eponymous label. By 1990, as one of the youngest designers and one of the most successful upscale brands on 7th Ave., the FLORA KUNG label had five divisions. Besides Designer Dresses, her Intimate Apparel was in Victoria’s Secrets, her Swimwear appeared in Sports Illustrated, and her Scarves were collected as artworks. Her designs were distributed to the finest stores in four continents—notably in US, Europe and Australia—while Flora was recognized as the "Princess of Prints" by Bloomingdales in Vogue magazine. However, Flora couldn't resist Paris calling. At the height of her very successful career, she left 7th Avenue and moved first to Sun Valley, Idaho, then "back home" to Paris two years later.

The Present...and the Future

The Present...and the Future

In Paris, Flora started a family and dabbled in very exclusive, made-in-France collections, before moving to New England with her husband and their young children so the latter could have a quintessential New England childhood. In around 2010, Flora created several very exclusive collections, collaborating with her children to design the prints. These limited-edition collections in luxurious silk jersey were once again embraced by a selection of the finest stores in the US and worldwide, and Kate Middleton was photographed strolling out of the London club Annabel's in a stunning new FLORA KUNG. Today, with her youngest having entered college, Flora now contemplates the possibility of relaunching her brand on a grand scale. Stay tuned...
